Ramadhan

I know. It has been a week. But hey, still it is not too late to wish all of you selamat berpuasa. Yup, this is my first Ramadhan abroad. Away from all the delicious foods at pasar ramadhan. Away from aktiviti berbuka puasa bersama kengkawan. Away from penang village –demn!

Anyhow, it is not my first ramadhan away from home. When i was in boarding school, my mom was in Kuching. So for 2 years I didn’t get the luxury of berbuka puasa at home. So, not being with kak siwah and nonot for berbuka is no big deal. The real challenge is not being able to be with them for Eid!! But hey, one got to do what one got to do. Not being with your family at a holy celebration like Eid, is not the end of the world.

Ramadhan in NYC is just like any ordinary day. Since Mon and I are relatively new here, there’s so many things that we have yet need to discover. Mission host ” berbuka puasa” every friday, complete with terawikh and moreh. The first one last friday was superb. We had bubur lambuk for berbuka,  nasi tomato, ayam masak merah, kurma kambing, ayam golek and pulut kuning  as main course for dinner after maghrib, and mee kuah for moreh. (cemana ahkak nak kurus??tell me?)

There are lot’s of pakistan/arab/turkey restaurant in Manhattan that served halal food. The nearest to my apartment is this Turkish restaurant called Ali Baba. We were told by the waiters that Ali Baba got their supply of red meats from a Muslim supplier which guarantees the Halal -ness but the chicken came from different supplier, so they are not so sure of the status. Fair enough. As long as I can get a good slice of steak on my plate , I am fine. Ali Baba also provides kurma for muslim to break fast with, while waiting for dinner to be served.

For terawikh, we have the options to choose either to go to the Islamic Center at 96th street or a nearby mosque at 55th street.

Well peeps, i guess that’s a brief description of how Ramadhan in NYC for now. Will try to put up more post later.

Till then,

Selamat Menunaikan Ibadah Puasa!!

kedai makan turki kat jepun pun selalu mcm tu…
sama ada ayam atau daging - dia berani konfem halal…
tapi daging atau ayam pula, dia beli kat supermarket biasa saja…

selamat berpuasa dan beraya di perantauan
i masa kat jepun rindu nak ke bazar ramadhan
